5 Minute Debate #2

PLEASE DO NOT POST BEFORE FRIDAY, 12.12.2019!

This debate will be different because you will have to 1)  cite specific evidence to back your claims AND 2) you can pick two of your topics AND 3) I will blog a bit and play the “devil’s advocate.”

Topics

Is social media a benefit for TEENS or YOUNGER KIDS?

Is standardized testing good for education?

Should we monitor online hate speech?

Should we lower the voting age?

Student Choices:

Should children be allowed to have gender reconstruction surgery? (35 votes)

Should everybody be eligible for an organ transplant? (40 votes)

Do dress codes avoid addressing rape culture by pressuring females to “cover up?” (37 votes)

Posting Guidelines:

1 .For this blog, you must post three times by Thursday, December 12, 2019.

2. Post your initial claim and support your claim with evidence (one of the 6 types of evidence).

3. You must address at least argument/address the evidence/address a counterclaim in your topic’s resource.

4. Comment on at least two other students’ posts. Use evidence for support or rebuttal.

5. You may use outside resources for your evidence. Make sure these sources are credible and cite those source(s).

I agree with you Krissy, I believe it is important to let the teachers teach at there own pace and allow them to teach what they want. As long as the child is actively learning, that is what is important. Also, if a teacher is forced to teach something that they do not want to teach than there is a chance that it can affect their teaching because people do better when they are doing something they enjoy.

I think that online hate speech should and shouldn’t be monitored. If it is monitored it violates the first amendment right that US citizens have, but a lot of people get hurt by this stuff. Which is why it should be monitored because then a lot less people will get hurt by other people on the internet.

Josh Moore i disagree with your statement about social media. Just because kids are on social media doesn’t mean that they can’t go outside and talk to someone face to face. Yeah they might not be as good at it as someone who doesn’t use social media but they can still get through a face to face conversation

I think standardized testing is not good for students. Some people are bad at taking tests so it wouldn’t show their growth from just a test. They take up too much time and put a lot of stress on students so they could end up doing worse.

I agree with you Bailey, people who are damaging their body should not get priority over others who are seriously sick. Organs are limited and not everyone should be eligible for one if they truly don’t deserve it.

I agree with you Krissy, standardized test don’t help students show their growth. You only have one shot at the test and anything could go wrong that could effect you that day. Overall, some people are better at different subjects and don’t test well in certain areas.
